I have a professional certificate in UX/UI design from Springboard. As a UX Designer, I am here to help build things people need and actually enjoy using. I employ my skills in research, empathy, user testing, design thinking, prototyping, and observation to help clients meet the needs of their target demographic.
I have worked a freelance visual designer for the last 15 years. During that time I have worked with a variety of clients in the theatre and arts related industries. I started experimenting in photography as a teenager and acquired the bulk of my experience working in a photo lab throughout my late teens and early 20’s. Working at the photo lab, I learnt about colour, lighting, developing film and composition. The rest of my experience I acquired through practice, taking my camera with me everywhere and working on location out of Telegraph Cove, B.C for Stubbs Island Whale Watching.
Stubbs Island Whale Watching
This project was a team effort that I spear headed while on contract with Stubbs Island Whale Watching in 2017. Our team was given direction to collect feedback from guests on their experience on tours. I gave instructions on guiding questions for guests and how to prep for the content collection. This video was filmed using an iPhone, Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1000K and a Nikon DSLR 5500. All editing was done in Final Cut Pro and voice-over was written and recorded by me.
Fitness For Freedom
This video was shot while working for Fitness For Freedom. It was for a subscription based website for personal training and in home exercise. The video was shot using a tripod, lapel mic, a Panasonic HD Camcorder and a basic light setup. In post production adjustments were made for exposure and sound quality as well as other editing. Software: Adobe Premier.
Stubbs Island Whale Watching
This video was produced and edited by me for Stubbs Island Whale Watching social media channels. The voice-over was scripted and recorded by me. Edited in Final Cut Pro. It received over 30,000 views on Facebook and was watched for a combined total of approximately 3500 mins. It was then screened and distributed to travel and tourism outfits at the Rendevous Conference in Halifax of 2018.
I have been writing since High School. It is one of my favourite forms of self-expression and also a great tool I have employed for various contracts to help drive website engagement and increase promotions. The articles below were written while on contract for Stubbs Island Whale Watching, Have A Little Insight and for BartenderTraining.ca
If you have never been to Telegraph Cove before, you might be surprised by what you find. This quaint and quintessential boardwalk community is a blast from the past and a reminder of simpler times. As you make your way down the old wooden boardwalk, you’ll hear the creak of the wood, smell the burning cedar from the salmon BBQ and pass rustic, little cabins that feel like they are from a different time.
Let’s paint a picture. You work in a local sports pub. It’s 3:30 in the morning. Finally, the bar is empty. Things are a disaster. There is still a good chunk of cleaning ahead. Throughout the evening, you tried to keep up but you probably won’t go home for another hour. The tip jar is overflowing, always a bonus. Then you wonder, nay pray, “I hope I made good money”. You have survived the rush.
Life is so intricate. It’s delicate like us, and if you’re listening it can move you even in the littlest of moments. Take a look around for just a moment and look at everything that influences your day, your month, your year and your life. Can you hear the whispers?
